Congressional Testimony and Other Public Appearances

I've testified before Congress on several occasions over the past decade. On December 10, 1996, I appeared before the House Government Reform Committee regarding my involvement in Gulf War Syndrome controversy during my time at the CIA. During my tenure on the legislative staff of Vietnam Veterans of America, I had the opportunity to represent the organization and testify before the House Committee on Veterans Affairs on key issues affecting all veterans. On January 24, 2002, I testified before the Health Subcommittee of the House Veterans Affairs Committee on the lessons learned from Operation Desert Storm. On June 12, 2002, I appeared before the Benefits Subcommittee of the House Veterans Affairs Committee regarding various benefit programs. After leaving VVA in the summer of 2002, I continued my role as an advocate for veterans. On June 3, 2004, I had the privilege of testifying before the House Veterans Affairs Committee Democrats on alternative means of funding health care for veterans.  Our nation still has a very long way to go in taking the actions necessary to truly honor the service of our veterans--particularly by providing an assured yearly funding stream for necessary health care, a proposal that finally became law in 2009. I'm grateful that I've had the opportunity to work on behalf of those who've worn the uniform of our country, as I did so many years ago.

You can check out C-SPAN's collection of my appearances here.
